• An adult-only, quiet home where I can settle in at my own pace
• A family willing to give me the time, patience, and understanding I need to build trust

Hi, I’m Miss Phoebe! My story started a little differently than most. I was surrendered to a southern shelter after the breeding facility I came from was closed down. Once I was no longer needed by that family, I found myself facing a completely new and unfamiliar world.

Despite everything I have been through, I am resilient, sweet, and slowly learning that people can be kind and that life can be pretty great. I may not be the dog who runs right up to greet you when we first meet, but underneath my nervous exterior is a playful, intelligent girl who is just waiting for the right people to help her shine.

Since arriving at Yankee, I have enjoyed daily walks with staff and volunteers and walk very nicely on leash. New people and situations can still make me nervous, so I need time to observe, get comfortable, and decide that everything is okay. Because building trust is so important for me, my future family will need to visit me for multiple meets before bringing me home. Taking things slowly will help set all of us up for success!

One thing that makes me feel much braver is other dogs. I have made lots of dog friends and absolutely love spending time with them. Running, playing, and simply being around another confident dog helps me understand that the world isn’t so scary. Because of how important that companionship is to me, I require another dog in my forever home. A furry sibling will be an important part of helping me adjust to home life and continue building my confidence.

My friends in Georgia got to know me well before I made my way to Yankee and shared a little about my progress:

“Phoebe came to us as one of the most frightened dogs. She would shy away from anyone and anything. She is doing much better and is now loving life. To gain her trust, approach her in slow, positive ways and act like everything is normal. She warms up eventually, and treats definitely help! Despite being nervous, Phoebe loves to run and play, especially with other dogs. Phoebe is a great dog once she warms up to you, and I know you’ll come to love her just as much as we have.”

And don’t let my shy personality fool you—I am one smart girl! My previous team did an amazing job teaching me new things. I know basic commands like sit, down, and place, but I also have a few fun tricks up my sleeve. I can high five, play “bang bang,” and fetch! Once I am comfortable enough to show you what I know, you may be surprised by just how much personality is hiding behind that nervous first impression.

I am looking for an adult-only, quiet home that understands I won’t transform overnight. Moving into a home will be another big change for me, and I will need a family who doesn’t put pressure on me to immediately be affectionate, outgoing, or comfortable with everything. Giving me choices, keeping things predictable, and celebrating the little victories will mean so much.

With time, I hope to learn all of the things I missed out on earlier in life—relaxing on a cozy bed, playing in the yard with my dog sibling, learning my family’s routine, and realizing that I am finally somewhere I belong.

It may take a little while to truly get to know me, but that’s part of what will make our relationship so special. Every new step, tail wag, silly moment, and bit of trust will be something we built together.
