What I’m looking for in my forever home:
- An active family ready for a fun, energetic young Golden
- A family committed to continuing my training
- I could live with another playful dog
- Teenagers are okay, but no young children
- A family willing to understand and work with my history of resource guarding
Hi everyone! My name is Alexander the Great, and at just 8 months old, I’m already living up to my very impressive name!
As you can see, I’m a pretty handsome guy, but I promise my personality is just as lovable. I love everyone I meet and am always ready to make a new friend. I’m a young, high-energy Golden who loves going for walks, playing with other playful dogs, and — maybe most importantly — SWIMMING! If there’s water around, count me in!
Since I’m still a young guy, I have plenty of energy and plenty left to learn. I’m looking for a family who understands that bringing home an adolescent Golden means continuing to work on training, manners, and giving me appropriate outlets for all that puppy energy. I’m smart and eager, and with some consistency and guidance, I have so much potential!
There is one important thing my future family should know about me. In my previous home, I showed some resource guarding, particularly with novel or exciting items I picked up, such as a remote. Resource guarding means that sometimes I may become worried about giving up an item I find valuable and may try to keep it from being taken away. This is something that can be managed and worked on through positive training, teaching trades, and helping me learn that giving something up often means something good is coming my way. My new family will need to be comfortable continuing to work with me on this and respecting my boundaries rather than simply taking things away from me.
Because of my history of guarding, a home with young children would not be the right fit for me, but a household with respectful teenagers would be okay.
At the end of the day, I’m still a young Golden with a whole lot of love, fun, and potential packed into one handsome package. With a family willing to give me the exercise, training, and guidance I need, I think I’m going to make one great addition to the right home.
After all… they don’t call me Alexander the Great for nothing!
