What I Need in a Forever Home:

• Another confident, friendly dog in the home is an absolute must! I rely on my canine friends for comfort, confidence, and guidance as I learn how to navigate the world.
• A securely fenced-in yard — I’m still timid and can spook easily.
• A quieter, patient household where I can settle in at my own pace.
• No young children, as too much noise and activity can be overwhelming for me.
• A family that will celebrate my little milestones and understand that progress takes time.

Hi, I’m Isabelle, a 6-year-old Golden Retriever with a gentle heart and a whole new world ahead of me!

I came to YGRR from a puppy mill in Ohio, so I didn’t get to experience all the normal things a dog should while growing up. Because of that, the world can still feel like a pretty big and sometimes scary place to me. But I have some exciting news to share — I’ve been living in a foster home and getting some much-needed experience with what it’s like to be part of a family!

My foster family has been absolutely wonderful about letting me take things at my own pace. They’ve been patient, understanding, and have allowed me to reach my milestones when I’m ready, without putting too much pressure on me. Things that might seem small to other dogs can be pretty big accomplishments for a girl like me! Every little step forward is something worth celebrating, and I’m slowly learning that life in a home can be a really wonderful thing.

One thing I’ve discovered is that I really do enjoy people! I might be a little hesitant when we first meet, but once I realize you’re a friend, my sweet personality starts to shine through. I’m learning to trust, enjoy affection, and find comfort in the people around me. I just need someone who understands that building confidence doesn’t happen overnight.

Now, there’s something very important you should know about me: I absolutely need another dog in my forever home! My canine companions are so much more than just playmates to me. They’re my teachers, my role models, and my security blankets all wrapped into one! I watch what they do, learn from their reactions, and look to them for reassurance when something feels unfamiliar. Seeing another dog confidently navigate everyday life helps me understand that maybe things aren’t so scary after all. Having a confident, well-adjusted dog by my side is truly essential to helping me continue to grow and feel safe.

I should also mention that I’m carrying a few extra Golden pounds! I could benefit from losing a little weight, so appropriate portions, gentle exercise, and eventually some nice walks as my confidence grows will help me get back to a healthier weight.

Since I’m still timid and can spook easily, a securely fenced yard is a must for me. I’d also be happiest in a quieter home without young children, where things are predictable and I can continue learning without feeling overwhelmed.

My foster family has already helped me come so far, but my journey is far from over. I’m not going to walk into my forever home knowing exactly how to be a family dog, and that’s okay! I need a family who won’t rush me, who will understand that some days might be harder than others, and who will celebrate all those little victories along the way.

I may be a work in progress, but I promise I’m worth the patience. With a loving family, a confident canine sibling to show me the ropes, and plenty of time to blossom, I know I have so much more to discover.
