Happily Adopted!
Lucy, YGRR #4465

YGRR received a call from Lucy's owner saying she had to be out of her home by the end of the week and desperately needed our help. Her home was in foreclosure and she had no one who would take her eight-year-old Golden girl. To the relief of her owner, YGRR moved quickly to admit Lucy into the program.

Lucy was in general good health although she had not been spayed. The surgery is often more difficult for older dogs and this was the case for Lucy. She came to Riverview and recuperated for a few weeks before the adoption staff began their search for a new home for her. During this time, the staff found her to be a sweet, easygoing girl who loved carrying around her stuffed toys.

A perfect adopter was waiting in the wings who was retired and wanted to adopt and older Golden. The adopter had always had Goldens in her life and decided she couldn't live without one! When she came to meet Lucy, the two hit it off immediately. Now, Lucy and her adopter lead a very active life with daily walks on nearby conservation land. Lucy's adopter describes her as a "gem"! This will be Lucy's first Memorial Day in her new home. There will be only good memories from now on for both Lucy and her new adopter.

Happily Adopted!
AJ, YGRR #4515

Pets are becoming victims of the economy just like their owners. AJ was surrendered to a shelter in Massachusetts because his family faced the foreclosure of their home. A move was imminent and, unfortunately for AJ, it was to no pets housing. The children in the family were especially sad to say goodbye to their Golden buddy.

The shelter called YGRR and four-year-old AJ was quickly picked up by a rescue volunteer and taken to the YGRR veterinarian. He was found to have been well cared for and was in excellent health. AJ came to Riverview and didn't have to wait long for his new home. A repeat adopter and his two Goldens came to meet AJ and everyone did just great. AJ has now been introduced to the "country" way of life, which includes a lake for swimming and trails for hiking. AJ will also accompany his adopter to work part time at the local hardware store. He will be a busy boy!

Happily Adopted!
Ralph, YGRR #4478

Ralph was taken from his homeless owner by a police officer as the two walked along a highway. It was a hot day and the officer was concerned about the elderly dog's well-being. He told the owner that the dog could be picked up at the city's holding facility after payment for a current license. YGRR was contacted when the owner never appeared. Unfortunately, the night before YGRR was to pick up Ralph, he was left unattended in a holding area with two young pitbulls and was viciously attacked about the head and ears. YGRR was asked to pay the cost of the surgery necessary to save Ralph's life. The surgery was performed and Ralph was picked up the next morning and taken directly to the YGRR veterinarian. Ralph spent a number of months recovering at Riverview.

A repeat adopter who loves senior Goldens was called to meet "Ralphie". He came to Riverview with 11-year-old Ziggy, YGRR #4044, and 13-year-old Ben, YGRR #1746. Ralphie was estimated to be 11 years old so he fit right in! Now Ralphie helps his new adopter tend to his garden and enjoys their daily mile long walks. Ralphie settled right in and his new family--canine and human--couldn't be happier to have him.
